Mr Brownsill was the only defendant who chose to contest the matter at trial, which involved substantial cell-site, mobile phone and encrochat evidence. By careful evidential analysis of the encrochat messages, which were unused for the Crown’s purposes, the defendant was able to undermine the assertion that he was knowingly involved in a conspiracy to supply Class A drugs, or a conspiracy to rob.
Mr Brownsill was acquitted on all counts save for a conspiracy to supply cannabis.
