Arrest & At The Police Station

As experienced criminal defence solicitors in Manchester we know that after being arrested the police station can feel a very lonely place. Before the police consider charging and/or bailing you they will no doubt want to interview you about the circumstances of your arrest. It is essential that you have the right person to fight your corner, even at this early stage the Police or Authorities will have already convinced themselves that you are guilty. See our article on ‘Are the Police bent?’ for more information.

What you need to know is the importance of that interview.  The Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 introduced procedures for the police to follow during certain aspects of the investigations but especially regarding you arrest, detention and interview. An Ashcotts criminal defence solicitor will not simply sit quietly in a clients interview but as allowed under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 will take an active role in defending your rights, challenging inappropriate questions and seeking clarification from the interviewing officers where appropriate and in your best interests.

This area of criminal law is very complicated and in nearly all circumstances, what you say during your interview will be disclosed before the court, should your case ever be listed for trial. It is vital for you to have the best representation and advice from an experienced criminal defence solicitor.
